Intercontinental Trophy Format

Post by Darlington »

This Tournament was renamed the Intercontinental Trophy from Season 20 and expanded to include teams from Africa and Asia. Previously called Anglo-American Trophy.

Rules
The current winners of the FMFA Cup and FMFA League Cup qualify for this tournament along with the next highest positioned league team in the Premier Division that do not qualify for the Intercontinental Club World Cup. Should any of the cup winners qualify for the Intercontinental Club World Cup or qualify for this tournament on league position then their place will go to the next highest placed Premier League team that haven't qualified for the Intercontinental Club World Cup.
These four teams will be joined by 2 teams from South America, 2 from North America, 2 from Africa and 2 from Asia.

Format
They will play in four groups of 3 playing each other twice, once home once away.
The top two teams from each group proceeding to the quarter finals finals.
The Quarter Finals and Semi-Finals will be two legged. If level after two legs then extra time and penalties (if required) will be used to determine the winner.
The final will be played over one leg at a neutral venue with no home advantage.
