Back off my break so a chance to react to how the team went whilst I was off. In short - spectacular - we followed up a 5-0 win at Arsenal with a tough 4-3 at home to Newcastle. We then got a great 4-1 away win at Liverpool before smashing rivals Wolves 4-1 at home. So four wins from four with 17 scored and just five against has been a great little run for us with two title rivals well beaten. We are top of the pile with a handy seven point gap to third but we can't shake off Bournemouth who also beat us in the cup - they are becoming a pain in our backside!
Goals against is becoming a worry too. We have conceded eight in the last four and only have six clean sheets in 16 matches with four of them coming in the first five games. If we weren't scoring at over three per game - over four per game for the last 6 - we'd be worried about the form. We do need more shutouts though.
This week we go to Brentford who are the only side other than Bournemouth to get anything off us this season - taking a 1-1 draw at their ground in the league cup group. The manager has started paying the side some attention so they won't be as easy to beat as they have been this season. Having said that, our squad should have enough to beat most teams in this league.
They will be without midfielder Jack Clarke who is suspended and defender Frederick who is inujured. Plus they have fitness issues after the cup so may be struggling. For us, we are also down on fitness after our extra time but have no injury or suspension so should really be winning this one. We take nothing for granted but it'd be a disappointment if we didn't
Wolverhampton wanderers U23 vs Newcastle United U23
The U23s season has fallen away recently with creditable draws away at Bournemouth and Everton then followed with a cup win over Sheffield United and a league win at home to Leicester. But we were well beaten at Villa last week and then went out of the cup to derby. So we need to get our stumbling season back on track - we have as many defeats as wins in the last 8 matches.
We face a Newcastle side who didn't have a cup game so are full fitness and no players out. We are missing Miracle Adewole after his red card and just need the fitness rotation other than that.
We are still fourth in the table but need some wins to make sure we stay top half. It looks like Villa and Bournemouth will scrap out the title but we want to be ready if they do slip up and to make sure we finish as high as possible
Not been our best start to a season this time but we sit 6th, mid table and we ara still a good way off the top.
A couple of wins have consolidated our position but we need to push on to get into the top four and home to WBA is a match we need to win.
Moretti in defence is suspended so he is out but apart from the the rest of the squad are fit and available. Fingers crossed we can get some points in this one.
like my 1st team my youths are on a bad run and now we have huge issues with fitness and suspensions and an injury but all i can do is plod on a try get something out of this game
