Newcastle United 2-3 (a.e.t.) Aston Villa
A fantastic game at St James' Park where we came from behind to hit back twice and then claim the win in extra time. Newcastle led through Andy Robertson before Tim Iroegbunam levelled for us in the first half. Christian Nkunku restored their advantage with 15 to go only for Diogo Nasimiento to grab the equaliser again. Extra time was a quiet affair as we shut up shop after Iroegbunam's second gave us the lead for the first time.
The depth in our squad is fantastic with all the goals in this game coming from defensive midfielders to show just what an all round outfit we are. And we'll need that depth after the extra thirty minutes when we go back into the league next as major rotation will be needed.
But the main thing is we are in a cup quarter final and continue to challenge on three fronts for trophies this season. We want to win every competition we enter so it's pleasing to come through a very tricky encounter.
Manchester United 1-5 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Not sure what is going on with the Man Utd manager but sadly he no showed here leaving his team vulnerable. And we exploited it emphatically coming away with a big 5-1 win from a potential real banana skin. In fairness we were probably lucky of him not turning up but we can only beat what we have in front of us and, despite Harvey Gilmore seeing his opener cancelled out, Jacob Ramsey, Maxwell Cornet with a double and Diogo Jota gave us the result we deserved.
So we are into the quarter finals without issue and continue to scrap on three fronts in what is shaping up to be as good a season as the Wolves faithful could possibly have hopped for
Such a great result against our rivals and we played the best football of the season. We was in total control of the game and managed to get 21 attempts on goal. From those 21 attempts we scored twice and it was all we needed to get into the next round. Joao Felix opened the score ten minutes before the half time and Domink Szoboszlai secured the win when he scored in the 70th minute. A very strong performance and very pleasing to send our rivals out of the FMFA Cup.
