    Round 17

Chelsea U23 3 - 4 West Ham United U23 An entertaining game, which we were on the wrong end of a seven goal thriller. Despite our lowly position, we have performed well since I took over at the start of the month which makes me wonder what on earth was happening with this side before I took charge for them to be sooooooo far adrift at the bottom.
  6. Chelsea 3 - 0 Newcastle United A great three points for us against the toon army in what was an even game in terms of possession but we restricted them to just two shots on target whilst we were clinical in front of goal with two goals from Dybala and the third from Kante.
  7. Chelsea u23s v West Ham United u23s A London derby for our development squad as we host West Ham United on Wednesday evening. Though we cannot finish other than last place, we will be making a good fist of this game as we look to build our development squad for next season. We have a number of players who are almost ready to be promoted to the first team so they will be looking to go out on a high and impress.
  8. Chelsea v Newcastle United We welcome Newcastle to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening as we look to bounce back after a couple of 'iffy' results and performances. We are at full strength so will be fielding a stong line-up though we may try a few new things in this game.
  9. Aston Villa u23 v Chelsea u23 Just like our senior side, we face Villa away on the back of our first win of the season. With absolutely nothing to play for and no chance of finishing anything other than last, we have the freedom to try a few things out for the remainder of the season. A number of players have been moved down to the u23 squad from the seniors over the last week to make us more competitive.
  10. Aston Villa v Chelsea Second game in charge and we head to Villa Park as we look to continue where we left off last week against Leicester City. We have no injuries or suspensions so have a full squad to choose from for the game.

WINNING STARTS ALL ROUND Chelsea got off to the perfect start to life under new manager Gary Goodson as they beat Leicester City 3-1 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening. Despite being aided with two sending’s off for the visitors, Chelsea put in a good display, dominating possession and passing the ball around well and fans left happy after seeing their club pick up the three points. Goals from Dybala, Götze and Mina were enough for the home side, despite going behind to a (name) goal that put the visitors ahead. Despite the setback, the Blues were playing well and creating a number of chances. The first flashpoint came on 19 minutes when former Chelsea defender, Cesar Azpilicueta was sent off for a professional foul. Things got even worse for Leicester as they were reduced to nine men on 54 minutes when Aymeric Laporte received his marching orders for his second bookable offence. With the balance of power now firmly with Chelsea, they took control of the game and three goals followed to crown a very good performance from Goodson’s side. After the game, a naturally delighted manager was pleased with his side’s performance “I was very pleased with how we played. Leicester made it difficult for us and showed why they are regarded as a top side in this league so to get the three points is a great outcome for us”. Due to other results, the win actually saw Chelsea jump four places, up to 6th and above former club Crystal Palace, whom suffered a heavy defeat in their first game since the post Goodson era. Though they are expected to name a manager within the next 24 hours, they would have been furthest from Goodson’s mind as he stood in the Chelsea dugout for the first time. It was also a rare good night for the clubs u23 side who managed to win their first game of the season at the 14th attempt. Prior to their game against Sunderland, they have picked up just one point all season and are marooned at the bottom of the table. Goodson has already gone on record to state he is appalled at the state of the u23 side and has vowed to sort the shambles out though has said it will take time. The u23’s is an area he takes a keen interest in, as can be seen by the Crystal Palace u23 squad he left behind but it is going to be a long process one feels to get his current sides development squad up to the same standard as his previous club.
  12. Chelsea U23 1 - 0 Sunderland U23 Nice to get a win at u23 level also as we start life at Chelsea. Make no mistake about it, this was a dire game but we are just happy to get a win and our first of the season, at the 14th attempt.
  13. Chelsea 3 - 1 Leicester City Great start to life at Stamford Bridge as we ran out 3-1 winners against a very good Leicester City side. Yes they had two men sent off and it certainly helped us but it was key to get off to a winning start and get three points under our belts.
  14. Chelsea U23 v Sunderland U23 A tough opening game for our u23 side, infact the state of Chelsea's u23 side is diabolical if truth be told and alot of work is going to be needed to be done to turn our fortunes around. Rock bottom of the league however my approach will be the same as it was at Palace, despite the distinct lack of quality in the squad.
  15. Chelsea v Leicester City First game in charge of Chelsea and we face a very tough opponent in Leicester City, a side who comprehensively beat my former side just last week whilst I was in charge. We have a number of options to choose from but we will experiment between now and the end of the season to get the right belnd.
