Everton U23 3 - 0 Hartlepool United

As a massive Darlo fan and part club owner. It is great to pummel the monkeyhangers.

Right now I got that off my chest (sorry to Hartlepool's Manager).
We got our tactics spot on for this one. Pool looked a slightly stronger team in some areas so we went opposite to what I guessed or hoped they'd do and lucky for me they went C.
That gave us tactic and home advantage and it paid off. In truth I thought we maybe get an odd goal win certainly not this 3-0 win. Now I need the team to play like this in the league.

Nottingham forest u23s 2-1 Solihull Moors.

A great performance from the lads, again no complaints about how the team played, we dominated large parts of the game and created chances however unfortunately we were not able to take our chances which has been our main problem this season as mentioned in pretty much all match reactions. Our formation worked well and our midfield had great control of the game. The Nottingham forest youngsters competed very well against us and took their chances well. If we can play like that in games then results will hopefully start coming on a regular bases.

Newcastle u23s 2-1 Wolves u23s.

While we lost this game I was impressed with the players attitude as they did not give up trying to get back into the game. Kyle especially from the deep midfield roll often attempted to make a 3rd AM and got himself into a lot of shooting positions, while he did not score I liked the fact he did not give up trying which is what you want from an attacking player. I felt our players were unlucky not to get a draw in the end as the come back we made in the last 20 minutes was really good. While I am concentrating more on the league I do want us to do as well as possible in every competitive fixture we are in. The better we are able to do and the further we get the more games and chances our players have for development oppotunities.

Just a rage inducing game. That red card is a joke and I'm beyond perplexed as to how they remotely could beat us as the better team. I even had the boys staying on their feet and dropped an extra man back expecting this sort of approach and somehow we get belted. THREE NIL for Christ's sake.

If they somehow manage to wiggle out of this group I will make a point of it to see them out of the competition because they just are undeserving.

Hartlepool extra

And if you think this is a blowtorch, just wait till I get them in for training tomorrow - yeah that's right we're training tomorrow.

No rest day, they were resting during the game, time to work hard and correct this failing.

Bournemouth U23 0 - 4 Sunderland U23

I had decided we were actually playing Brentford U23's in this one so our game plan reflects that. I'm glad that even away from home Gordon and Whittaker were able to roam and stretch the opponents defensive lines. That resulted in good chances and we converted four of them which I'm pleased about!

It did feel like they'd rotated their squad for this game so don't want to crow about it too much. Players are recovering well from this game, no suspensions either, and the philosophy of trying to build from the back is bearing fruit when you look at how we transition forward. We are clearly much better at it than early days of the season. I think we just have an away trip to Dagenham and Redbridge, tough game, we'll see how much we want progression in this tournament.

West Bromwich Albion U23 0–2 West Ham United U23

Mike McLeod’s young Hammers produced a disciplined, counter-attacking display and made their chances count.
Kieran Wooster struck first in the seventh minute, rising to meet Dobra’s corner with a looping header that left Brady helpless. Minutes later, N C-Philips doubled the advantage, thundering home from range after a deflection and a goal-line check by the referee.
Keeper Herrick was immense, pulling off a string of top saves to deny Soule, Jenner and Brown, earning himself a clean sheet and keeping West Brom frustrated. Defenders Laing, Harmon and Forbes stood firm, repeatedly repelling waves of home attacks.
West Brom’s pressure was relentless but they lacked the precision to find a breakthrough.
