Norwich City U23 0-2 DERBY COUNTY U23

Despite sheeting for this game a 442 sheet didn't stop us winning.
We deserved to win and the stats confirm that was the case.
A good start to the group and lets hope it can continue.
Saved penalties for a living and reffed for a bit.
Currently run EFLO, CoE and OFMC

Aston Villa U23s 4-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers U23s
I feared the worst here. Playing at home against a non sheet and we went 1-0 down with almost the first kick of the game. We trailed until half time despite having the better of the game and it felt like it was going to be one of those awful days when you batter a team but lose to their only chance in the game. As it happens they did have 2 shots on target but fortunately the other wasn't converted.

After an absolute hammering at half time the young lads came out and were much improved and, crucially, more clinical. Tim Iroegbunam setup Armando Broja for the equaliser on 52 minutes to audible relief around the ground and this turned to celebration 5 minutes later when Iroegbunam turned scorer - latching on to Yusuf Bildik's through ball and lobbing the keeper. From this point we were firmly in control although Giovanni Garofani did have to make a smart save from Fabio Silva to maintain the lead. On 82 minutes the pressure paid off and the result was beyond doubt as a series of corners finally ended with Rory Wilson - on as a sub for his debut - forcing it home for his first Villa goal in his first appearence. The icing was put on the cake by Kieran Dowell who finished the scoring with a beautiful solo effort as the visitors ran out of gas.

So we're underway and top the table after the first group game. It's a mammoth stage though with 10 matches and the objective as ever is to progress as quickly as possible so early wins are crucial. The starting team is solid but the squad still feels small and it's important to add where we can - especially with the prospect of some players graduating before too long.

We have managed to add Mads Bidstrup from Brentford this week who will come in and add some depth to our midfield. A solid box to box player he will certainly add for us. But we're still on the lookout and if we get opportunities to bring more in, we will. For now though we work with what we have and turn attention to the next game - the season is under way andf they will come thick and fast now!
