The young Hammers started brightly, creating several early chances through Wooster and Halim, before being forced into an early change after injury to C-Philips. The breakthrough arrived just before half-time when Halim powered home a fine header to reward West Ham’s dominance. In the second half, Newcastle pressed hard, but West Ham defended resolutely, with Herrick making key saves and Golding controlling the tempo.
