BAGGIE-GREEN BLUES: ROVERS RATTLED ON OPENING DAY
By Barry "The Brick" Bazza – Reporting from a very quiet New Lawn
FOREST GREEN ROVERS 0 - 2 BROMSGROVE SPORTING
Scorer: Hall (46, 70)
Well, welcome to the big leagues, Forest Green. If we were hoping for a gentle introduction to life in the division, Bromsgrove Sporting clearly didn’t get the memo. Tim Brown’s men stepped out at The New Lawn as a bit of an "unknown quantity," but by the 90th minute, the only thing we knew for sure was that K_Hall is going to be a problem for every defender in this league.
Despite a spirited performance and actually out-shooting the visitors, Rovers were taught a harsh lesson in clinical finishing. We had the ball, we had the chances, but Bromsgrove had the "Gaffer’s Nightmare" himself leading their line.
A TALE OF TWO HALVES
The first half was a frantic, end-to-end affair where Rovers actually looked the more likely to break the deadlock. Yahya Bamba was a man possessed, forcing A_Palmer into several fingertip saves, while Jayden Clarke was busy pulling strings and launching 40-yard drives that had the keeper scrambling.
Bromsgrove weren't without their own threats, though. Jakub Moder rattled the woodwork early on, and Luke McNicholas had to be at his best to deny K_Hall from a curling effort. It was a stalemate at the break, but you could feel the tension in the Gloucestershire air.
THE HALL PASS
The second half was barely a minute old when the game changed. A bit of sloppy defending saw K_Hall find space at the top corner, and he didn't need a second invitation to bulge the net. 1-0 to the Sporting, and suddenly Rovers were climbing a mountain.
Tim Brown tried to switch things up, throwing on Harry Cardwell and Kyle McAllister to find an equalizer. We went "all out attack" for the final twenty minutes, but it left the back door wide open. In the 70th minute, Hall struck again, skipping past Jili Buyabu with a quick turn and catching McNicholas out to make it two.
Rovers kept fighting—McAllister even pulled off a beautiful nutmeg before forcing another save from Palmer—but it just wasn't our day.
ROVERS PLAYER RATINGS
• Luke McNicholas (GK) – 6.5: Couldn't do much about the first, but might feel he could have done better for the second. Still made five big saves to keep us in it.
• Abraham Kanu (DF) – 6.0: Solid enough. Made two key tackles and stood his ground when the pressure was on.
• Cian Harries (DF) – 5.5: A tough afternoon. Picked up a yellow card for a bad foul and was part of the defensive lapse for the opener.
• Gabe Kircough (DF) – 6.0: Generally reliable. Won his headers and tried to spark play from the back.
• Jili Buyabu (DF) – 5.5: Got turned inside out by Hall for the second goal. He’ll be seeing that turn in his nightmares tonight.
• Elijah Morrison (DF) – 6.0: Put in a beautiful cross for Bamba in the first half but tired and was replaced by Cardwell.
• Chibuzo Nwoko (AM) – 6.5: One of our better creative outlets. Linked up well with Bamba and Clarke.
• Harvey Bunker (MF) – 6.0: Worked hard in the engine room but struggled to contain Bromsgrove’s midfield trio late on.
• Kairo Mitchell (FW) – 6.0: Had a few sights of goal but his radar was slightly off today.
• Yahya Bamba (FW) – 7.5 (ROVERS MOTM): Unlucky not to be on the scoresheet. Five shots on target and was a constant thorn in Bromsgrove’s side.
• Jayden Clarke (AM) – 7.0: Busy and inventive. His 40-yard drive was the highlight of the first half.
THE SUBS:
• Kyle McAllister (AM) – 6.5: Brought some real flair. That nutmeg was worth the admission price alone.
• Harry Cardwell (FW) – 6.0: Tried a spectacular bicycle kick that nearly came off.
FANZINE MAN OF THE MATCH: YAHYA BAMBA
He didn't get the goal his play deserved, but Bamba was the heart of everything good about Rovers today. If we can get him the right service, the goals will come.
Bazza’s Parting Shot: "Welcome to the league, lads. It’s a cruel world when you don't take your chances. We go again next week!"

HARDENHUISH HORROR: ROVERS ROCKED BY CLINICAL CHIPPENHAM
By Barry "The Brick" Bazza – Checking the sat-nav for a way out of this slump
CHIPPENHAM TOWN 3 - 0 FOREST GREEN ROVERS
Scorers: Fleming (5), Haines (49), Hall (55)
You’ve got to be joking. If last week was a wake-up call, this was a full-blown air raid siren. We travelled to Hardenhuish Park hoping to ignite our Conference League campaign, but instead, we watched Forest Green Rovers get dismantled by a Chippenham side that was as clinical as a Swiss watch.
The stats tell a story of absolute madness: we had 16 attempts on goal to their 10. We had 10 shots on target to their 7. We even had more possession. But while our lads were busy warming the keeper's gloves, Chippenham were busy putting the ball in the back of the net.
A NIGHTMARE START
It took exactly five minutes for the defensive line to vanish. Craig Fleming slipped through the back four like a ghost, rounded Luke McNicholas, and tapped it into an empty net. 1-0 down before the fans had even found their seats.
We tried to fight back. Kairo Mitchell was running his marker ragged and forced a brilliant save from Will Henry, who—to be fair—played like a man possessed tonight. Yahya Bamba thought he’d equalized in the 28th minute when his strike hammered off the underside of the bar, but the referee waved play on. I’ve seen some bad decisions in my time, but that one was daylight robbery.
THE SECOND-HALF COLLAPSE
If we expected a turnaround after the break, we were sorely disappointed. In the 49th minute, Luke Haines found himself unmarked at the back post and rifled it home to make it two. Six minutes later, the game was dead and buried. Joe Hall unleashed a strike that left McNicholas with no chance. 3-0.
Tim Brown threw on Harry Cardwell to try and salvage some pride, and the lad nearly did, fizzing a shot just over the bar. But even with Jayden Clarke pulling the strings and forcing save after save from Henry, the goal just wouldn’t come.
ROVERS PLAYER RATINGS
• Luke McNicholas (GK) – 5.5: A long night for Luke. Made six saves but will be disappointed to have conceded three from just seven shots on target.
• Abraham Kanu (DF) – 6.0: One of the few who stood his ground. Made a vital tackle on Touray in the first half.
• Gabe Kircough (DF) – 5.5: Struggled with the movement of the Chippenham front two. Distribution was okay, but the marking was non-existent.
• Jili Buyabu (DF) – 5.0: A day to forget. Picked up a yellow card for a poor challenge early on and was caught out for the second goal.
• Elijah Morrison (DF) – 5.5: Busy on the flank but couldn't provide the service Mitchell and Bamba needed.
• Chibuzo Nwoko (AM) – 6.5: Forced two top-drawer saves from Henry. At least he was trying to make things happen.
• Tyrese Campbell (MF) – 5.5: A quiet game in the middle. The match seemed to bypass him at times.
• Harvey Bunker (MF) – 6.0: Put in a shift and forced a great save from a corner, but his yellow card for a phantom foul summed up our luck.
• Kairo Mitchell (FW) – 7.0: Our best outlet. Had three shots on target and was a constant threat, but found Will Henry in inspired form.
• Yahya Bamba (FW) – 6.0: Robbed of a goal by the officials. Subbed after an hour as Brown looked for a different spark.
• Jayden Clarke (AM) – 7.5 (ROVERS MOTM): Five shots on target. He did everything but score. Henry’s save from Clarke’s 47th-minute strike was world-class.
THE SUBS:
• Harry Cardwell (FW) – 6.0: Brought some energy and was unlucky with a blistering shot that just cleared the bar.
FANZINE MAN OF THE MATCH: JAYDEN CLARKE
He was the only reason I didn’t leave at 3-0. Clarke was relentless, carving out chances and forcing the Chippenham keeper into a Man of the Match performance.
Bazza’s Parting Shot: "Six goals conceded in two games. I’m not saying we’re in trouble, but I’ve started looking at the relegation odds. Sort the defense out, gaffer!"

LAURELS AT THE LAWN: TEN-MAN TOON HELD BY GRITTY ROVERS
By Barry "The Brick" Bazza – Reporting from the deep Cotswolds
FOREST GREEN ROVERS 1 - 1 NEWCASTLE UNITED
Scorers: Mitchell (15 pen); Rankine (86)
If you’d told the Forest Green faithful that they’d head into the second leg of this League Cup tie on level terms with the "far superior" Newcastle United, they’d have assumed you’d spent too much time in the local cider orchards. But at a rocking Mazuma Mobile Stadium, the underdogs didn't just survive; they gave the Magpies a genuine bloody nose.
MAGPIES SEE RED
The game flipped on its head in a chaotic first half. It started brightly for the hosts when K_Mitchell coolly dispatched a penalty in the 15th minute after M_Dearnley was judged to have pulled a shirt in the box. The stadium barely had time to catch its breath before Newcastle’s Albin Thaqi completely lost the plot. In the 23rd minute, Thaqi was shown a straight red card for a malicious "butt" on C_Nwoko, leaving Harry Klenjan’s men to play over an hour with ten men. Despite the man advantage, Rovers retreated into a defensive shell. Newcastle, even shorthanded, dominated possession and peppered the goal, with M_Mudryk—the Man of the Match—pulling every string available.
LATE RANKINE RESCUE
As the clock ticked toward a historic Forest Green victory, the Magpies’ relentless pressure finally told. In the 86th minute, Mudryk threaded a needle-point pass to substitute D_Rankine. The forward timed his run to perfection and slid the ball past L_McNicholas to snatch a late, late equalizer. Newcastle finished with the lion's share of the momentum, but Tim Brown’s Rovers (yes, the very same Tim Brown who is apparently moonlighting in the Cotswolds) will head to St James' Park knowing they are very much still in this fight.
POST-MATCH INTERVIEWS
Tim Brown (Forest Green Manager):"We rode our luck at times, especially in the second half, but the boys showed incredible heart. When you go 1-0 up against a side like Newcastle, you have to be perfect. We weren't quite perfect at the end, but we’re still level. We go to Tyneside with nothing to lose."
Harry Klenjan (Newcastle Manager):"The red card changed everything, but I have to praise the maturity of my players to keep pushing for that goal. Mudryk was sensational today—he didn't let the disadvantage affect his game. We should have finished it here, but we’ll get the job done at home."
ROVERS PLAYER RATINGS
L_McNicholas (GK) – 5.5: Didn't have much to do in terms of saves, but will be disappointed to concede so late.
M_Robson (DF) – 7.0: A vital presence in the back five, making several key clearances.
A_Kanu (DF) – 6.5: Solid enough, though struggled with Rankine’s pace late on.
G_Kircough (DF) – 6.0: Got a yellow early for a bad challenge but made three key tackles to keep Nkunku quiet.
J_Buyabu (DF) – 6.0: Played his part in the defensive wall for 79 minutes before being rotated.
E_Morrison (DF) – 7.0: Robbed Mudryk of the ball in a dangerous position early on. A gritty display.
C_Nwoko (MF) – 6.0: Was on the receiving end of the red-card butt. Kept his composure afterward.
T_Campbell (MF) – 5.5: Worked hard but struggled to impose himself on the Magpies' midfield.
H_Bunker (MF) – 6.0: One key tackle and a lot of running before making way for McAllister.
J_Clarke (MF) – 6.0: Provided the headed assist that led to the penalty drama.
K_Mitchell (FW) – 8.0 (MOTM): Clinical from the spot and led the line heroically as the lone striker.
THE SUBS:
K_McAllister (AM) – 6.5: Brought some energy to the final half-hour and forced a save from Dearnley.
Y_Bamba (FW) – 5.5: A 31-minute cameo but spent most of it defending.
R_Inniss (DF) – 6.0: Came on to shore up the defense for the final 16 minutes.
FANZINE MAN OF THE MATCH:
K_MITCHELL
When the big moment came, he didn't blink. His penalty gave the Rovers something to dream about, and his work rate against a top-tier defense was second to none.
Bazza’s Parting Shot: "Level at the break! Now, can we survive 90 minutes at St James' without the Magpies getting an itch for another red card?"

ST JAMES’ PARK STUNNED: ROVERS BRAVERY NOT ENOUGH AS TOON TOUGH IT OUT
By Barry "The Brick" Bazza – Thinking of trading my Spurs scarf for a green one
NEWCASTLE UNITED 3 - 1 FOREST GREEN ROVERS
(Newcastle United win 4-2 on aggregate)
Scorers: Nkunku (15, 73), Mudryk (86); Nwoko (9)
If you’d told Tim Brown’s men they’d be leading at St James’ Park inside ten minutes, they’d have probably asked for a lie-down. But for a glorious, brief window on Friday night, the Division Two underdogs were dreaming of the impossible. Forest Green Rovers—the little club from the Cotswolds—went toe-to-toe with the Tyneside titans and, for a long time, looked like they might actually pull off the heist of the century.
Ultimately, the sheer weight of Newcastle’s multi-million-pound artillery told, but Rovers leave the North East with their heads held high and their reputations enhanced.
THE RUDDY FACTOR? MCNICHOLAS DEFIES GRAVITY
The talk in the pubs around Nailsworth this week wasn't just about the tactical setup, but about the rumors circling that Tim Brown is looking to bring in experienced keeper Jack Ruddy to compete for the number one shirt. If that was intended to light a fire under Luke McNicholas, it didn't just work—it caused a god-tier conflagration.
McNicholas was a man possessed in the Rovers goal, racking up a staggering 12 saves. He denied Nkunku, Larsen, and Sterling time and again with a performance that screamed, "This shirt is mine." He was a human highlight reel, keeping the aggregate score level as Newcastle peppered the goal with 30 attempts. If Ruddy was watching from the stands, he might have started looking for a different club.
NWOKO SILENCES THE GALLOWGATE
While McNicholas was busy at one end, Charlie Nwoko was busy blowing the script apart at the other. In the 9th minute, Jordan Clarke—who was tireless all evening—threaded a diagonal ball that sent Nwoko clean through. He rounded the keeper with the coolness of a man buying a pint and thundered it home to give Forest Green a shock lead.
The lead lasted only six minutes. Newcastle’s Christopher Nkunku reminded everyone of his quality, cutting through the defense and smashing a rocket past McNicholas to square the game.
QUALITY TELLS IN THE END
The heartbreak began in the 73rd minute. Nkunku, the Man of the Match, pounced on a loose ball in the area and slid it home to finally break the Rovers’ resistance. With Forest Green pushing for a late equalizer to save the tie, they were caught on the break. Substitute Mykhailo Mudryk—a man who costs more than most small towns—curled in a beautiful third to seal the result and the aggregate victory.
POST-MATCH INTERVIEWS: PRIDE AND PROTEST
Tim Brown (Forest Green Manager):
"I’m gutted for the boys but bursting with pride. We came here, the smallest club in the draw, and we had them worried for over an hour. Luke [McNicholas] was world-class tonight—perhaps he heard a few whispers this week, but that’s the level of competition I want at this club. We didn’t lose because of a lack of heart; we just ran out of steam against a Champions League side."
Harry Klenjan (Newcastle Manager):
"Credit to Forest Green, they made us work for every single inch tonight. Their goalkeeper was incredible; I haven't seen a performance like that at St James' in a long time. But in the end, Nkunku’s quality was the difference."
ROVERS PLAYER RATINGS
Luke McNicholas (GK) – 9.5 (MOTM): Twelve saves. Absolute defiance. If there was a 'Ruddy' rumor, Luke answered it with his gloves.
Marcel Oakley-Robson (DF) – 8.0: Five key tackles. He led that back five with absolute authority.
Aaron Kanu (DF) – 7.5: A massive physical presence who nearly snatched a goal in the 68th minute.
G_Kircough (DF) – 7.0: Four key tackles. Snuffed out Nkunku’s runs whenever possible.
Jamie Buyabu (DF) – 7.0: Two key tackles and constant energy before being replaced.
Edmund Morrison (DF) – 6.5: Held the line well for over an hour under immense pressure.
Charlie Nwoko (MF) – 8.5: Scored a goal that he will be telling his grandkids about.
Tyrese Campbell (MF) – 6.0: Worked hard in a congested midfield but struggled for possession.
Harvey Bunker (MF) – 6.5: Did the dirty work that allowed the creative players to break.
Jordan Clarke (MF) – 8.0: Provided the assist for the goal and was the engine of the team.
K_Mitchell (FW) – 6.0: A lonely night up front, but his hold-up play was vital for the first 45.
THE SUBS:
Kyle McAllister (AM) – 6.0: Brought on to find a late spark, but the Toon defense was wise to him.
Y_Bamba (FW) – 6.5: Had a late sniff at goal but saw his effort gathered.
FANZINE MAN OF THE MATCH: LUKE MCNICHOLAS
Twelve saves in the loudest stadium in the country. Rumors or no rumors, that was the performance of a lifetime.
Bazza’s Parting Shot: "Luke McNicholas has just sent a very clear message to the gaffer: 'Don't bother booking the taxi for Ruddy just yet!'"

THE NEW LAWN THRILLER: HARRIES BUTT-GOAL SNATCHES POINT AS RUDDY MAKES DEBUT
By Barry "The Brick" Bazza – Moonlighting in Gloucestershire again
FOREST GREEN ROVERS 2 - 2 HARTLEPOOL UNITED
Scorers: Bamba (12'), Harries (75'); Darcy (3'), Francis (64')
Just when you thought the drama was strictly contained to North London, Tim Brown’s Gloucestershire revolution serves up a proper four-goal thriller at The New Lawn. All the talk before kick-off was centered on the team sheet. The rumors were true, folks—Jack Ruddy has officially signed on the dotted line and was thrown straight into the starting lineup to make his debut between the sticks.
If Ruddy thought he was in for a quiet afternoon in the Cotswolds, he was mistaken. He was picking the ball out of his own net inside three minutes, but a resilient Rovers display ensured they walked away with a hard-earned point in a standard 50-50 possession stalemate.
BAMBA ANSWERS EARLY DARCY BLOW
The match could not have started worse for Brown's men. Hartlepool's R_McNally won an early header, nodding it directly down to C_Darcy, who didn't hesitate to lash a shot past a stranded Ruddy. 1-0 to the visitors, and the home crowd was momentarily stunned.
Brown immediately ordered his team into an attacking shape, and it paid off dividends almost instantly. In the 12th minute, Harvey Bunker hit a shot that deflected directly into the path of Yahaya Bamba. Bamba didn't think twice, unleashing an audacious effort that completely beat J_Eastwood to square the ledger. 1-1!
The rest of the first half was a frantic, end-to-end affair. Bamba missed an opening over the bar, while Ruddy had to be alert at the other end to deny K_Foreman with an acrobatic stop.
TACTICAL TENSION AND THE ASSET REBOUND
The second half saw things get incredibly tactical, and a bit dirty. Tate Campbell picked up a yellow card in the 62nd minute for a bizarre incident where he sprayed a bottle of Lucozade directly at Hartlepool's M_Daly. Two minutes later, Hartlepool substitute J_Francis capitalised on the distraction, unleashing a thunderbolt into the top drawer to put United back in front. 2-1 Hartlepool.
With the clock ticking away, Brown threw on Chibuzo Nwoko and Marcel Oakley-Robson to steady the ship. Then, in the 75th minute, came a moment of absolute comedic genius that will live long in New Lawn folklore.
Cian Harries made a blistering run down the wing, bypassing his marker. He whipped a cross in, but it took a wicked deflection, hit Harries directly on his own backside, and rebounded straight past a completely wrong-footed Eastwood into the net! It was a literal asset-assisted equalizer. Harries sprinted straight to the bench and jumped on top of a delighted Tim Brown to celebrate.
Both sides had late chances, with Eastwood denying Bamba and Ruddy making a top-tier save in stoppage time to deny Foreman, but a draw was a fair result for a cracking afternoon of football.
POST-MATCH INTERVIEWS
Tim Brown (Forest Green Manager):
"You don't often see goals scored off a center-back's backside to salvage a point, but we will absolutely take it! The character to fight back twice today was excellent. Jack [Ruddy] did well on his debut—it's never easy conceding so early, but he made some vital saves late on to secure the result. We are showing that we have goals in this team; now we just need to tighten up the early transitions."
Cian Harries (Rovers Defender & Backside Goalscoring Hero):
"I can't lie to you, I didn't know much about it! I just ran down the flank, tried to put the ball into a dangerous area, and the next thing I knew it hit my rear end and went into the net. A goal is a goal, right? Jumping on the gaffer was just pure adrenaline. It's a massive point for us."
ROVERS PLAYER RATINGS
Jack Ruddy (GK) – 7.5: A highly respectable debut. Made eight saves, including a match-saving block in the 91st minute to keep us level. Welcome to the club, son.
Elijah Morrison (DF) – 6.5: Solid for the hour he was on the pitch before Brown shifted to a back four.
Cian Harries (DF) – 8.5: Made two key tackles and scored one of the most bizarre equalizers you will ever see in your life. A legendary display.
Ryan Inniss (DF) – 7.5: Three key tackles and a vital late block to deny Darcy. Rock solid.
Jordan Moore-Taylor (DF) – 6.0: Had a tough time tracking Hassan before being hooked on 61 minutes.
Jili Buyabu (DF) – 6.0: Covered plenty of grass down the left flank before being rotated for Cardwell.
Kyle McAllister (MF) – 6.5: Provided a decent aerial threat but was guilty of flashing a first-half header wide.
Tate Campbell (MF) – 5.5: Ran hard but completely blighted his copybook with that ridiculous Lucozade-spraying yellow card. Subbed shortly after.
Harvey Bunker (MF) – 7.0: Provided two key passes, including the ball that led to Bamba's opener. The engine room today.
Yahaya Bamba (FW) – 9.0 (ROVERS MOTM): Absolutely magnificent. Five shots, an incredibly clinical volleyed goal, and he ran the Hartlepool defenders ragged all afternoon.
Kairo Mitchell (FW) – 6.5: Provided two key passes and worked hard to link the play, though missed a golden standard opening just before the whistle.
THE SUBS:
Harry Cardwell (FW) – 6.5: Came on up front and forced a sharp save out of Eastwood late on.
Marcel Oakley-Robson (DF) – 7.0: Two key tackles in a composed 33-minute cameo at the back.
Gabe Kircough (DF) – 6.0: Replaced Moore-Taylor and kept things simple.
Chibuzo Nwoko (MF) – 6.0: Brought on to shore up the midfield after Campbell's liquid assault.
FANZINE MAN OF THE MATCH: YAHAYA BAMBA
While Harries will get all the headlines for his cheeky asset rebound, Bamba was the true driving force of the attack today. A constant menace.
Bazza’s Parting Shot: "A point gained, a debut checked off, and a goal scored with a backside. Never a dull day following Tim Brown's travels!"

DERBY DAY EXTRAVAGANZA: MORRISON MAKES IT MAGIC AT THE SILVERLANDS
By Barry "The Brick" Bazza – Checking my coordinates in Derbyshire
BUXTON 0 - 1 FOREST GREEN ROVERS
Scorer: Morrison (77')
If you’d told the traveling Forest Green contingent that after surviving a chaotic four-goal stalemate against Hartlepool, their first away win of the league campaign would be sealed by a defender morphing into a pop star, they’d have told you to go easy on the local bitter. But out in the Derbyshire hills at The Silverlands, Tim Brown’s tactical blueprint bore premium fruit in a dominant 59% possession performance.
A CHASSIS OF SQUANDERED CHANCES
The first half was a masterclass in attacking frustration. Rovers completely camped out in the Buxton half, carving open the hosts' structural geometry with absolute ease. Jordan Clarke and Kairo Mitchell linked up beautifully inside two minutes, only for Mitchell to lace a thundering shot wide into the taunting home stands . Buxton offered very little on the break, though Abraham Kanu nearly scored an absolute comical own goal in the 3rd minute with a terribly weighted back-pass that left debutant Jack_Ruddy scrambling as it trickled just wide . At the other end, Chibuzo Nwoko and Clarke kept driving the line forward . Nwoko forced a brave punch from Buxton keeper J_Young , while Mitchell saw two stinging attempts brilliantly turned away by the home shot-stopper . Just before the halftime tea break, Tate Campbell was chopped down by T_Sodje to earn the Buxton man a yellow card , but the breakthrough just refused to land.
MORRISON’S CORNER-FLAG SERENADE
The second half followed a completely identical pattern. Mitchell sidestepped his marker but flashed an inside curler wide , prompting Brown to call upon his substitution assets on the hour mark. Harry Cardwell, Elijah Morrison, and Yahaya Bamba were thrown into the equation to find the premium quality needed . Cardwell instantly tested Young with a venomous shot off the post , and you could feel the tactical tension rising. Then, in the 77th minute, the moment of absolute magic arrived. Morrison found a seam in the Buxton low block, skipped through the transition, and unleashed an absolute glorious, net-busting effort past Young to make it 1-0 ! It was pure bedlam in the away end as Morrison ran straight to the corner flag, ripped it out of the turf, and pretended to sing into it like a microphone. Absolute top-tier theater, son! Brown immediately ordered the lads to switch to a strict counter strategy to lock down the three points. Buxton threw bodies forward, but Robson was a total colossus at the back, putting in a quality defensive shift to choke out any late threat. Bamba nearly doubled the advantage with a late curling snap-bender that Young tipped wide , but one goal was more than enough to secure our first thumping league win of the season!
POST-MATCH INTERVIEWS: PORTRAIT OF PRIDE
Tim Brown (Forest Green Manager):"Total tactical dominance. That is the only way to describe today. We held nearly sixty percent of the ball, registered sixteen attempts, and limited them to practically nothing in our area . Elijah [Morrison] took his goal brilliantly—I'm not sure about his singing abilities at the corner flag, but his quality on the pitch was undeniable . Keeping a clean sheet away from home down here is massive for our confidence. The season starts now."
Elijah Morrison (Match Winner & Pop Star Extraordinaire):"When I saw the space open up, I just thought, 'why not?' To see it hit the back of the net was an incredible feeling . The corner-flag celebration? Ah, it was just pure adrenaline, I was just singing a little victory tune for the traveling fans! The gaffer has given us total belief, and getting three points on the board out here proves we are heading in the right direction."
ROVERS PLAYER RATINGS
Jack_Ruddy (GK) – 7.5: Had a much quieter afternoon than his debut but remained alert. Fisted away a dangerous Sodje corner and held a stinging drive late on to secure the clean sheet.
Max Robson (DF) – 9.0 (ROVERS MOTM): Absolutely magnificent. Made an identical string of crucial clearances to deny Johnston and read the game like an absolute veteran. A class-act defender.
Abraham Kanu (DF) – 7.0: Survived that early back-pass heart attack to put in a robust display, making a fantastic block tackle to deny Trueman before being rotated on 64 minutes.
Gabe Kircough (DF) – 7.5: Provided a premium cross-field pass to Mitchell in the first half and was rock-solid in the aerial duels all afternoon.
Cian Harries (DF) – 7.0: Followed up his backside-scoring heroics with a disciplined performance, shutting down Robinson down the flank before being rested.
Jili Buyabu (DF) – 6.5: Spent a very busy afternoon tracking Tomlinson down the wing and tried his best to stretch the host's backline.
Chibuzo Nwoko (MF) – 8.0: A powerful engine in the middle. Hit a thunderous drive well-saved by Young and registered four total shots on target.
Jordan Clarke (MF) – 7.5: Provided two key passes in the final third and forced a sharp standard save out of Young in the first half before making way for McAllister.
Tate Campbell (MF) – 6.5: Kept the tempo high in the engine room and drew a yellow card after a malicious challenge from Sodje just before the whistle .
Harvey Bunker (MF) – 7.0: Did the dirty work with zero fuss, closing down lanes and testing the keeper with a speculative drive late on .
Kairo Mitchell (FW) – 6.5: Incredibly frustrated not to score today. Hit four attempts on goal but lacked his usual clinical edge before being subbed.
THE SUBS:Harry Cardwell (FW) – 7.5: Came on and immediately caused chaos, rattling the crossbar with an audacious volley that somehow stayed out .
Elijah Morrison (DF) – 8.5: Scored the thumping match-winner and absolute king of the touchline with his post-goal antics .
Yahaya Bamba (FW) – 7.0: A lively 30-minute cameo up top, testing the keeper's fingertips with a dipping effort .
Kyle McAllister (MF) – 6.0: Came on for the final twenty minutes to help anchor the midfield and see out the clean sheet.
FANZINE MAN OF THE MATCH: MAX ROBSON While Morrison gets the headlines for his pop-star corner-flag routine , Robson was the bedrock of this victory. Total structural composure under pressure to ensure we heading back to Gloucestershire with maximum points.

LATE SHOW LAUNCHES GREEN MACHINE: BAMBA AND MITCHELL BLOW IRON AWAY
By Barry "The Brick" Bazza – Writing this from the back of a tractor outside Nailsworth
FOREST GREEN ROVERS 2 - 0 SCUNTHORPE UNITED
Scorers: Bamba (83'), Mitchell (86')
Get the local cider flowing and tell the barman to keep the taps open, because Tim Brown’s Gloucestershire revolution is officially picking up premium speed! After traveling up to Derbyshire and stealing all three points against Buxton, the Green Machine rolled back into The New Lawn and put Scunthorpe United to the sword in front of a rocking home crowd.
We didn't have it all our own way. Scunthorpe sat deep in a rigid back-five shape and made the tactical geometry incredibly frustrating, holding a slight edge with 52% possession. But when you have the sheer patience, defensive grit, and late-game clinical fire that Brown is drilling into these boys, you only need three minutes to completely blow a football match wide open. Two late goals, another clean sheet, and the fanzine section is absolutely buzzing!
THE FIRST-HALF WALL
From the first whistle, it was clear Scunthorpe had come down south to frustrate us. Every time Jordan Clarke or Kyle McAllister tried to thread a pass through the heart of the engine room, an Iron shirt was there to block the line.
Our main outlet was Kairo Mitchell, who was a total bundle of energy up front. In the 32nd minute, Clarke played a peach of a ball into Mitchell’s path, but his looping effort was matching-saved by Scunthorpe keeper P_Boyes. Mitchell had another snapshot comfortably held shortly after, and we went into the halftime tea break locked at a tense 0-0 stalemate.
THE NWOKO TENSION AND THE YAHAYA ROCKET
The second half followed an identical script, with our backline looking completely unbothered. Max Robson—who is fast becoming my favorite defender in the league—put in a quality defensive shift, tracking runners and stopping attacks before they even reached our box.
Tim Brown started dialing up the aggression on the hour mark, shifting to a more attacking setup and throwing on our resident super-sub Yahaya Bamba. The match looked like it was drifting toward a frustrating draw, especially when Chibuzo Nwoko lost his head in the 79th minute, flying into a rash challenge on D_Eze that earned him a yellow card. I was ready to throw my hat on the pitch in frustration.
But in the 83rd minute, the structural dam finally burst. Nwoko redeemed himself flawlessly, collecting a loose ball and spraying a magnificent diagonal pass out to Yahaya Bamba. Bamba controlled it, looked up, and unleashed a cheeky first-time flick that completely wrong-footed Boyes and trickled into the bottom corner! 1-0 Rovers! The entire stadium erupted into pure bedlam.
KAIRO COOLS THE IRON
Scunthorpe completely lost their discipline after the opener, and we didn't waste a single second punishing them. Just three minutes after the breakthrough, Abraham Kanu drove forward from the backline and spotted Mitchell peeling off his marker. Kanu threaded a silver-plated ball through the gap, and Kairo Mitchell hit it on the bounce, smashing a devastating finish past Boyes to make it 2-0!
Iron substitute J_Dawson hit the post in stoppage time during a rare break, but Jack Ruddy barely had to stretch his gloves all afternoon to secure another premium clean sheet. That's back-to-back league wins, folks. Tim Brown has got this club absolutely humming!
POST-MATCH INTERVIEWS
Tim Brown (Forest Green Manager):
"It was a match that required total patience and tactical maturity. Scunthorpe set up to make the parameters of the pitch very congested, and we had to bide our time. Yahaya [Bamba] brought that injection of premium quality we desperately needed off the bench. To get two quick goals at the end proves the fitness and belief running through this squad right now. We are building a very solid foundation here."
Kairo Mitchell (Man of the Match):
"We knew it was going to be a battle of attrition today. Their keeper made some top stops in the first half, but the gaffer told us at halftime to keep executing the blueprint. When Abraham [Kanu] played that ball through, I didn't even think, I just hit it. Hearing The New Lawn rock like that at the end is exactly why we put the hard yards in."
ROVERS PLAYER RATINGS
Jack Ruddy (GK) – 7.5: The easiest clean sheet he’ll earn all season. Claimed a routine corner in the first half and organized his backline flawlessly.
Max Robson (DF) – 8.0: Brilliant for the hour he was on the pitch. Made two goal-saving tackles to completely neutralize Dawson before being rested.
Abraham Kanu (DF) – 8.5: Absolute class. Locked down his zone defensively and provided a truly world-class assist for Mitchell’s sealer.
Gabe Kircough (DF) – 7.0: Played with total composure, reading the game beautifully before being rotated for Buyabu on 61 minutes.
Cian Harries (DF) – 7.0: Solid, dependable, and error-free down the flank before making way for Bamba in the tactical shift.
Elijah Morrison (DF) – 7.5: Put in a massive physical shift down the wing, including a heroic sliding block to deny Howe just before the interval.
Kyle McAllister (MF) – 7.0: Provided two premium key passes in the first half and anchored the transition beautifully for the full 92 minutes.
Jordan Clarke (MF) – 7.5: Carved open the Scunthorpe low block with a couple of defense-splitting passes and forced a smart save from Boyes.
Tate Campbell (MF) – 6.5: The quiet engine today. Did the dirty work in the middle of the park to let Clarke create.
Harvey Bunker (MF) – 7.0: Won his physical duels with ease before being hooked for Nwoko as we chased the winner.

FANZINE MAN OF THE MATCH: KAIRO MITCHELL
Yahaya Bamba will get the plaudits for breaking the deadlock, but Mitchell fought like a lion against three giant Scunthorpe center-backs all afternoon and thoroughly deserved his goal to wrap up a spectacular victory.
Bazza’s Parting Shot: "Two wins on the bounce, zero goals conceded, and the Green Machine is officially rolling up the table! Tim Brown, buy yourself a pint of local ale tonight, son!"
