Re: Round 34 Reaction
Aston Villa 2-1 Arsenal
ASTON VILLA ARE CROWNED SUPER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!!!
A rollercoaster of an afternoon to finish off a rollercoaster of a season! We knew going into it that a win would likely take the title and anything less would miss out and so it proved - a loss would have seen us third! We controlled the game but fell behind and I was fearing for us until Antony Gordon grabbed a double. He started slowly in his career with us but has come good - finishing on 19 goals.
It has taken a mammoth effort to win this league! 34 games and we've had to rack up 78 points at nearly 2.3 per game! Credit must go to @Burrows and @Eduardo who have pushed us all the way and made it a fantastic contest!
We thought we'd blown it many times with the defeats at West Brom and Everton as well as the dropped points at home to Man City and Brentford. We dropped all 6 points to our nearest rivals but somehow hung on in there and kept coming back. In many ways this has been one of my most satisfying trophies in ESMS due to the quality of the opposition and length of the season. To maintain the momentum over that period takes a lot.
Thanks to the match runners and site admin for an enjoyable season. Roll on the next one where we will try to defend our crown! That'll be even harder...
