This is a great result for the youths as it now moves us 3 points clear at the top of the group, we managed to grab the counter and then controlled the game from the off and against a team with a very good setup its starting to show I have managed to move our youth development into the right direction and the team hasnt suffered yet with the promotion of Dani.
Brentford U23 1-1 Aston Villa U23
I'm surprised Neil thinks this is a disappointing result for his team as, when you look at the gulf in class between the two squads and the domination of the game by us, I would have thought a point was a decent return for them. Personally we are diappointed that we couldn't get the full three points. Still we came from behind with Verell George cancelling out Kilmas' opener for the home side. We had the chances to win it but it wasn't to be.
The win puts us on the brink of qualification. We may have done enough to be at least a best third place but in the push for the top two we are six points clear of Brentford with six to play for. Our GD is 18 goals better than theirs meaning that we could lose both our remaining games 4-0 with them winning theirs 4-0 and we would still progress! So it is all but mathematically job done and we can start rotating the squad to manage abs and fitness for the final two games. That was the situation we wanted to be in so great to find ourselves there.
A game we should have won at a canter but we didn't get the winner until the 80th minute when Jordan Allan came off the bench to net his 5th of the season. Fabio Silva had given us the early lead but, despite dominating the stats, we were stunned when Miracle Adewole turned it into his own net after half time. Anything less than a win would have been an injustice for us but we left it late!
It's our 7th straight win in all competitions and our 8th in 9 this season with the other one being the draw at Burnley who seem to be somewhat of a bogey side for us. We didn't fancy much from this group when we took over but they are defying expectations.
We are not mathematically through yet but in a similar position to Villa with a six point cushion and a healthy GD although we only have the 15 goal buffer rather than Villa's 18. But it should be enough and, like them, we can start rotating before the end of this stage. A pleasing place to be with the now smaller squad we have.
