After a good start to the league campaign we kick off the league cup at home once again. We're in an all division two group with three caretaker managers looking after the clubs so hopefully we can pick up some points and make our way into the latter stages. That would mean additional prize money and game time as we look to develop the squad.
I haven't managed a game in the League cup since season 18 so this is relatively new to me. Indeed I have only managed 12 games in the competition during my 11 season FMFA career - and 7 of them were when my Villa side made the final in season 13. Fair to say I am inexperienced in this one!
Sheffield United are in a similar boat to Wolves with a caretaker - and a very good one in David who I have a poor record against. They have a pretty strong squad considering with Jose Sa, Lenglet and van Berg the stars in defence. Doucoure will need to be well marshalled in midfield whilst the dual attacking threat of Joelinton and former Villa U23 star Tristan Jumeau as AMs are also going to have to be well marked. In general they are stronger than us in all areas with the possible exception of the attack where we maybe get the edge.
In that area Giovane Simeone will make his Wolves debut after his unforseen suspension last game - we have double checked and he is eligible this time. Other than that it will be rotation as we continue to try and get our relatively new squad to gel. There are improvements still to make but we're getting there and have a solid team with no out and out superstars.
The more games we can get through without losing as we work on the side the better we will be placed when we are the finished article. Another home game is a great opportunity to continue and build on our decent start last weekend.
