Sheffield United vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
We go into what is hopefully the final game of the season with three outcomes possible for us.
1. We win the league
2. We come second and get promoted
3. We come third and face the playoffs.
We have been in the top two for every game of this season so that third outcome would be an absolute disaster but we have only won one in the last six and indeed only five in the last 15 in all competitions so we have become a bit predictable and are limping towards the finish line. For the first time this season our destiny is out of our own hands!
So the scenarios:
Code: Select all
Pl Team P W D L GF GA GD Pts
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1 West_Ham_United 21 12 4 5 40 25 15 40
2 Wolverhampton_Wanderers 21 12 3 6 36 23 13 39
3 Leeds_United 21 10 6 5 24 10 14 36
If we win and West Ham don't win at home to Fulham then we are up as Champions. If we draw then we will need the Hammers to lose by three or more goals for us to win the title
A draw will be enough to secure promotion to division one whatever happens but we will be promoted whatever we do if Leeds fail to beat Newcastle at home. If we lose and Leeds win, we'll slip into the playoffs.
Sheffield United are at full strength whilst we had the cup game in the week so have slight fitness issues to be managed. This will be the 4th meeting of the sides this season and we have lost every one so far so things don't look too rosey but all we can do is go and give it our all. A point would do the job we set out to do - although a title win would be nice.
We learned on the eve of the game that Ian McNamara is coming in to take over the side in the off season. I'm delighted - the job I was brought in to do was to make this side attractive to a potential permanent manager and it's brilliant we have been able to do that. Hopefully i will be able to hand over the reigns as a Division 1 club!
