I've talked a lot about this having been a poor season but we now have an opportunity to secure a top 6 finish and the potential of an Anglo American Cup spot for next season. By my reckoning, Arsenal are the only English side who can win this season's AA Champions League and they're guaranteed a top 4 finish. So 5th in the league gets an automatic Trophy spot. 6th will also qualify should Tottenham win the FA Cup but 6th and 7th are guaranteed playoff spots.
It is more than likely a draw will get us top 6 as it would need either Everton or Leicester to win big in their games. To get 5th we will have to better Newcastle's result - if we both win, we'll have to win by 2 extra goals to go 5th on goals scored - so we'll be looking for goals.
Now we hit the last match and start to reflect - we have score more goals than all but Tottenham but conceded more than all but Southampton. That is what to address for next year. We have made an Anglo American semi final and lost on away goals in the FA Cup to an eventual finalist and title contender. Not the disaster it may have been.
Would be nice to finish on a win and take that trophy spot though...
