Aston Villa U23s 4-1 Norwich City U23s
After a good first home win over Wolves and a hard fought 0-0 draw at Derby we returned to winning ways with a comfortable victory against Norwich. Anticipating their sheet would be a basic 442N formation we setup to pass around them with an attacking formation and Armando Broja set the tone after just 6 minutes with a good solo effort. Dowell then doubled the advantage just before the half hour - also creating and finishing for himself - as we kept complete control of the game. And it was basically over just 3 minutes later when Broja turned provider setting up Tom Costello for our third.

The second half continued with our dominance despite a nightmare moment for young Ismail Bouleghcha who put the ball through his own net on 83 minutes. The Moroccan will be playing a lot more football this year and is very well thought of at the club so this won't hold him back at all - just a minor setback. We didn't want to finish on that and so kept pushing and Broja scored a second to bookend the win following an assist from Karamoko Dembele who was making his debut. The manager was delighted with the start made by his new attacking mid who had several key involvements and made a big difference to the squad. It is thought he can play as a mid, an AM or a forward in the U23 setup and that versality could be key in a still threadbare squad.

So a game we dominated with 18 attempts to just one from the opposition and our second successive 4-1 home win in this comp. We sit second in the group and have already played third place away from home so the big games look to be home and away vs Newcastle at the moment. With two going through we've set ourselves up well to progress but it isn't done yet and still a long way to go. If we continue this form though it is shaping to be a good season.
