Eagles 2 - 1 Hoops

Another narrow win and we’ve got off to a good start to the season. The game was very close looking at the match stats but we managed to get the winning goal late in the game. It leaves us inside top 6 after three games unbeaten.

The first ten minutes was very lively and it became a very entertaining game with a lot of chances to both sides. In the 19th minute Xavier Amaechi hit the ball forward and James Rodriguez was at end to it. Rodriguez lobbed Luca Ashby-Hammond and we found ourselves a goal up. Jean-Philippe Mateta came close to double our lead ten minutes before the break but his shot hit the outside of the post. We went into the dressing room with a narrow lead.

The visitors started the second half the better and got a much deserved equliser when Ryan Sessegnon’s shot hit the post and onto Guglielmo Vicario’s back and crossed the line. All square with thirty minutes left to play. Both teams went for the winner and both teams had big chances to score. With nine minutes left of the game Xavier Amaechi yet again took things in is own hands and made his second assist of the game. He played a smart pass to Jean-Philippe Mateta and his shot slipped through Luca Ashby-Hammond’s hands and the goal secured a good win for us.

Newcastle United 1-4 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Probably one of the biggest upsets of the season in this one as we came away to a very good Newcastle side and dominated the game scoring four goals. I expected this to be a real battle where we'd have been happy with a point so to take all three so comfortably is a massive bonus.

Off season signing Sam Lammers was the hero once again with his hat trick coming in the first hour of the game against his former employers. With Thomas Muller an unused substitute for the Magpies that now looks like an inspired bit of business from us. Harvey "Happy" Gilmour was the other scorer on the day bagging his second of the season for us.

It's three wins from three in the early part of the league season for us with four from five in all competitions. This was our first away game so to come through it in such an accomplished manner is a big boost. We know there are plenty of challenges to come our way but we couldn't be any better in the league than we are currently and the groundwork is there with the target of returning to the top flight seeming more realistic each week.
