A fantastic game for the supporters and a result they will have enjoyed immensely as we kicked off the Anglo American campaign with a big home win.
Anthony Gordon got things underway with his first goal for the club before some spectators had taken their seats but we were pegged back inside 10 minutes as the game got off to a dramatic start. Gordon suddenly found a taste for scoring as he restored the advantage just another 10 mins later but that was immediately cancelled out. Finally we started to take control after that as the game settled down a bit. Jetro Willems scored after 25 minutes as we took the lead for the third time before Ansu Fati continued his great scoring run to give us a cushion before the break. The second half was a tighter affair but Luis Suarez continued to try to show that he is the man to be our backup forward for the season as he came off the bench to collect his second of the season and our fifth to put the game beyond doubt. There was even time for Suarez to have a second ruled out before the final whistle.
So a comprehensive win in the end and one that gets us off to a great start. I always say in these four team groups that, if you can win your home games, you're in a great position to progress - probably only needing a point or two away to be sure of that qualification. So this is job one done in relatively simple fashion. We know there will be tougher games in this group and three points on the board was vital here with that in mind. So job done and on to the next one
